9 Tips for surviving a healing crisis!

Have you ever cut something from your diet or started a new exercise program but you end up feeling even worse? Or more annoying, gotten sick?! The symptoms of a healing crisis can often be far worse than the disease of illness that you are treating. This is only temporary! As your cells begin to repair themselves, they dump loads of toxins in to the circulatory system to be removed by the elimination organs: Lungs, kidneys, skin, bladder, liver, GI tract)

What triggers a healing crisis?

  • Dietary Changes

  • Increased supplementation

  • Detox programs

  • Exercise

  • Detoxifying treatments (Ie. Massage, Bowen Therapy, homeopathy etc.)

  • Increased water intake

A Healing Crisis is also known by it's medical terminology as “Herxheimer Reaction.” It occurs when your cells release toxins faster than the body or organs can process and eliminate them.

Signs you are experiencing a healing crisis:

  • Lethargic or sleepy

  • Insomnia

  • Headaches

  • Diarrhea

  • Increased bathroom visits

How To Deal with a Healing Crisis: People who are suffering with major illness and disease may have more severe reactions. It is important to remember that these symptoms are temporary. Symptoms of Healing Crisis usually only lasts 2-3 days. In some rare cases they can last for a few weeks.

It can be challenging to go through symptoms as many people believe that health is based on how you are feeling. However, the longer our bodies are filled with pathogens and toxins, the worse your health will be and the faster your body begins to develop disease. 1. Fasting

Temporarily fasting (or Intermittent Fasting) allows the energy your body would normally use digesting food to be diverted to your excretory organs (liver, kidneys, bladder etc.) When done correctly, this can speed up the healing process and give your digestion a break.

2. Double Your Water Intake

Water is essential for many functions in the human body. The important one here is that water flushes your system and assists your body to remove toxins through the organs while re-hydrating your muscles and tissue. If possible, drink filtered water.

3. Breath Slowly and Deeply

Oxygen is another crucial element that our bodies MUST have. Making sure your body is calm and taking long, deep breaths helps oxygenate the blood and calms your body. It is working pretty hard after all!

4. Get MORE Sleep

Our bodies do a large amount of our healing during sleep. This is where we use the least energy as our brains and muscles do not require much energy. Sleeping allows our bodies the chance to repair a little faster. Listen to your body! It is always better to take that nap.

5. Drink Bone Broth
